Sesame Street Live and Dinosaurs

We have had a lot of adventures this month. Besides having two snow days - days when I couldn't make it out of the house to go to work - we went to see Sesame Street Live and saw two dinosaur exhibits at local museums.

Mimi (my mom) was given some complimentary tickets to go see Sesame Street Live! Imagine 1-2-3 at the Fox Theater. I though Daniel would enjoy seeing Elmo and all his friends, so we made a date to go to a Sunday afternoon show. We had no idea what seats we would get or if Daniel would be able to sit through the show. We were very pleasantly surprised when we got to the will-call window and were given floor level seats about 24 rows back from the stage. Daniel was amazed by the Fox Theater and kept saying "Mom, this place is nice!" We took a trip to the bathroom then headed for our seats just as Big Bird was announcing that there were 5 minutes to show time. Once the lights dimmed and the music began, Daniel was enthralled. He sat on Mimi's lap with his Elmo doll and watched everything going on up on the stage. He bounced from Mimi's lap to my lap to his own seat, but was entertained by the show the whole time. Intermission brought out people selling huge bunches of Elmo balloons, and of course Daniel really wanted one. Since the tickets were free, I gave in. The second half was just as entertaining, though near the end Daniel was unhappy with out loud the sound was and I had to cover his ears. Overall it was a great show and a great experience for Daniel.

Another weekend this month we went to see the Dinosaur exhibit at the Cranbrook Institute of Science. They had a small but very nice dinosaur exhibit with dinosaur skeletons and fossils. There was also a children's area where kids could "dig" for dinosaur bones, do puzzles and play with toy dinosaurs. After a rather quick run through the exhibit to see the dinosaur bones, Daniel dragged us into the play area for some digging. We managed to convince him to see some more of the museum and did a quick walk through the rest of the exhibits before heading back to the children's area to play until it was time to go. Then we headed home for a yummy grilled steak dinner.

Finally, last weekend we decided to go see the Dinosaur Unearthed exhibit at the Detroit Science Center. The exhibit there is very popular and the line to get in was very long. Luckily, since we are members, we were able to move up to a much shorter line. The benefits of being a member far outweigh the cost!! The dinosaur exhibit there included not only skeletons and fossils, but also huge animatronic dinosaurs that move and roar. It was so interesting to see how much different these dinosaurs looked from those that I learned about in school. Many of the animatronic dinos had feathers or "fur" and not lizard-like skin like once thought. I learned a lot from this trip. Daniel found these dinosaurs very cool, but a little scary, with all the roaring and moving. So though it was a great exhibit, we only lasted about 10 or 15 minutes before Daniel was ready to move on. I didn't even get any photos! Daniel then took us to his other favorite exhibits, including the race cars, the factory with the forklift, and Kids Town. After that we were all tired and hungry, and it was snowing again, so we headed home to a carry-out pizza dinner.

Daniel "driving" the forklift.

I wonder what wonderful adventures March will bring?!?!
