Randy's Birthday & Monster Jam

Randy's birthday was on January 10th.  That morning before we left for school and work, we gave  Randy his birthday gifts and cards.  Daniel had been so excited about the gift but still managed to keep it a secret from Randy until his birthday (even though Randy already knew) - 3 tickets to Monster Jam.  We were unable to have a birthday dinner and birthday cake on the 10th, as it was the KinderCare Winter Gala, so we decided to celebrate before Monster Jam on the 14th instead.

We did go to the Winter Gala to see Daniel perform a few songs with his Pre-K class.  Daniel, who is not fond of standing in front of a room full of strangers, decided he was going to watch instead of participate.  This was no surprise to Randy and I, so we all watched the kids sing their winter songs and had a snack before heading home for the night.

Every day for the rest of that week Daniel would ask if it was Monster Jam day.  I would tell him how many days left and remind him that we would be going on Saturday after dinner.  On Saturday morning, Daniel woke up and immediately got dressed before coming downstairs for breakfast, I guess in preparation for the show.  We did manage to keep him busy during the day and after a birthday dinner at Red Robin, we headed downtown for the show.

Once we arrived and walked into Ford Field, Daniel immediately put on his "earmuffs" - and the trucks weren't even running yet!  He doesn't like loud things and kept them on the entire time we were there.  Thank goodness we had them!

Daniel really enjoyed watching the Monster Trucks, especially the racing portion of the event.

After the racing portion, there was an intermission as they set up for the Freestyle portion of the event.  By the time freestyle started, it was 9pm and Daniel was getting tired.  He lost interest in the show for a while and decided to take photos with my camera of everything around our seats (his box of popcorn, for example).

After a while he turned his attention back to the monster trucks and was able to see two trucks roll over and one get a flat tire.  He thought that was great.  The show ended around 10:30pm with Grave Digger winning the freestyle portion of the show.

On the way home I asked Daniel what he thought of his first Monster Jam show.  He said "it was really loud."  The next morning he couldn't stop talking about it.  "Monster Jam was really cool, Mom.  I want to go 10 more times."  I think he liked it!  : )
